It is obvious that renewable energy is becoming more and more important in the modern energy system because of its environmental friendliness. In recent years, photovoltaic (PV) have developed rapidly. Renewable energy integration and flexible demand response make smart grid operation scenarios complex and changeable, which bring challenges to network planning. If every possible scenario is considered, the solution to the planning can become extremely time-consuming and difficult. This paper introduces statistical machine learning (SML) techniques to carry out multi-scenario based probabilistic power flow calculations and describes their application to the stochastic planning of distribution networks. The proposed SML includes linear regression, probability distribution, Markov chain, is oprobabilistic transformation, maximum likelihood estimator, stochastic response surface and center point method. Based on the above SML model, capricious weather, photovoltaic power generation, thermal load, power flow and uncertainty programming are simulated. Taking a 33-bus distribution system as an example, this paper compares the stochastic planning model based on SML with the traditional models published in the literature. The results verify that the proposed model greatly improves planning performance while meeting accuracy requirements. Read more.
Protection and Control of Modern Power Systems is an international academic journal co-published by Power System Protection and Control Press and Springer. The journal is devoted to presenting new theories, technologies and top-level academic achievements in the field of protection and control in modern power systems. It strives to accelerate the development of the field by serving as a bridge between Chinese and global researchers in the field. In doing so, Protection and Control of Modern Power Systems makes an important contribution to the power industry.
Using ETAP software in our electric power course provides students with a unique experiencein analyzing real world electric system issues. They have a great opportunity to simulate andstudy issues common in industrial plants and electric utility systems with state-of-the-artsoftware. ETAP better equips our students to advance in their chosen field of interest. Asgraduates they are better prepared and trained in electrical system design and analysis.
From protective device coordination, arc flash, load flow and voltage profile calculations totransient analysis with auxiliary power systems interfaces, we must stay current with thelatest in software technology, and [the ETAP 2010 Nuclear User Utility Conference] is a bestpractice in achieving that.
The investment in ETAP has proven to be most valuable to our engineering consultancy as bothLota and its customer have significantly benefited from the power of ETAP. This was sosuccessful that now customers are suggesting new ETAP analysis, a result of their increasedtrust in both Lota and the ETAP software.
Energy modeling or energy system modeling is the process of building computer models of energy systems in order to analyze them. Such models often employ scenario analysis to investigate different assumptions about the technical and economic conditions at play. Outputs may include the system feasibility, greenhouse gas emissions, cumulative financial costs, natural resource use, and energy efficiency of the system under investigation. A wide range of techniques are employed, ranging from broadly economic to broadly engineering. [1] Mathematical optimization is often used to determine the least-cost in some sense. Models can be international, regional, national, municipal, or stand-alone in scope. Governments maintain national energy models for energy policy development.
General Electric's MAPS (Multi-Area Production Simulation) is a production simulation model used by various Regional Transmission Organizations and Independent System Operators in the United States to plan for the economic impact of proposed electric transmission and generation facilities in FERC-regulated electric wholesale markets. Portions of the model may also be used for the commitment and dispatch phase (updated on 5 minute intervals) in operation of wholesale electric markets for RTO and ISO regions. ABB's PROMOD is a similar software package. These ISO and RTO regions also utilize a GE software package called MARS (Multi-Area Reliability Simulation) to ensure the power system meets reliability criteria (a loss of load expectation (LOLE) of no greater than 0.1 days per year). Further, a GE software package called PSLF (Positive Sequence Load Flow) and a Siemens software package called PSSE (Power System Simulation for Engineering) analyzes load flow on the power system for short-circuits and stability during preliminary planning studies by RTOs and ISOs.[33][34][35][36][37][38][39][40]
The extended and revised second edition of this successful monograph presents advanced modeling, analysis and control techniques of Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS). The book covers comprehensively a range of power-system control problems: from steady-state voltage and power flow control, to voltage and reactive power control, to voltage stability control, to small signal stability control using FACTS controllers.
In the six years since the first edition of the book has been published research on the FACTS has continued to flourish while renewable energy has developed into a mature and booming global green business. The second edition reflects the new developments in converter configuration, smart grid technologies, super power grid developments worldwide, new approaches for FACTS control design, new controllers for distribution system control, and power electronic controllers in wind generation operation and control. The latest trends of VSC-HVDC with multilevel architecture have been included and four completely new chapters have been added devoted to Multi-Agent Systems for Coordinated Control of FACTS-devices, Power System Stability Control using FACTS with Multiple Operating Points, Control of a Looping Device in a Distribution System, and Power Electronic Control for Wind Generation.
Abstract:Radio waves are attenuated by atmospheric phenomena such as snow, rain, dust, clouds, and ice, which absorb radio signals. Signal attenuation becomes more severe at extremely high frequencies, usually above 10 GHz. In typical equatorial and tropical locations, rain attenuation is more prevalent. Some established research works have attempted to provide state-of-the-art reviews on modeling and analysis of rain attenuation in the context of extremely high frequencies. However, the existing review works conducted over three decades (1990 to 2022), have not adequately provided comprehensive taxonomies for each method of rain attenuation modeling to expose the trends and possible future research directions. Also, taxonomies of the methods of model validation and regional developmental efforts on rain attenuation modeling have not been explicitly highlighted in the literature. To address these gaps, this paper conducted an extensive literature survey on rain attenuation modeling, methods of analyses, and model validation techniques, leveraging the ITU-R regional categorizations. Specifically, taxonomies in different rain attenuation modeling and analysis areas are extensively discussed. Key findings from the detailed survey have shown that many open research questions, challenges, and applications could open up new research frontiers, leading to novel findings in rain attenuation. Finally, this study is expected to be reference material for the design and analysis of rain attenuation. Keywords: attenuation; rain; frequency; communication; millimeter wave; microwave; ITU-R
